"Education is the central resource of our small country"

From the speech to mark the anniversary of the University of Triesen on 3 October 2020 in the Triesen community hall
by the head of the municipality Daniela Erne

For years, the municipality has been aware that education is the central raw material of our small country. For years, we have been strengthening the educational centre, networking it, offering platforms and infrastructures and actively defining education as a locational advantage.

We are the only municipality in Liechtenstein to offer the full spectrum of education. From daycare centres to modern kindergartens, public and private primary schools, all types of secondary schools, a music school and... a university. We are happy and also - to be honest - quite proud that we are able to provide all these educational institutions here in Triesen to the population, the country and the region. This makes us proud because it was and will continue to be a conscious decision to focus entirely on the education sector and to have developed, promoted and strengthened this unique selling point as a municipality in Liechtenstein.

"What grows and flourishes needs space, room and development potential"

We were recently able to make additional premises in the factory available to the education centre. Anything that grows and flourishes needs space, room and potential for development.

Education needs space, development potential, creativity, innovation and yet a home. The UFL embodies this progress and tradition just like our community. What starts out small can grow and flourish with good care, foresight, innovation and a wealth of ideas. We have all been able to follow this development of UFL over the last two decades in exemplary fashion. And also enjoy it.

"The factory has developed into the educational centre of Triesen and Liechtenstein"
If you want to develop further, you need to be grounded, grounding and stable: UFL finds all of this in the factory. Where the industrialisation of Liechtenstein once had its origins, today stands a testimony to over 150 years of economic power. The factory has developed into the educational centre of Triesen and Liechtenstein, is home to numerous innovative companies and an excellent cultural centre. Old walls in which many people can feel at home, develop, grow, learn and thrive.

The fact that an open, goal-orientated exchange between so many disciplines takes place within the factory - not least thanks to the municipality of Triesen - is simply wonderful.

"Living, recreation, education": These are the cornerstones of the municipality of Triesen's location marketing concept. This "living, recreation and education" shows Triesen's potential and shows where we are and where we want to go. Education in itself not only makes our dreams come true. It is also a constant companion of our living spaces.

"Education has a significant influence on economic factors"
As I mentioned at the beginning, education is our only available raw material. Whereas in other places entire economies are sustained with liquid or solid raw materials, in our country it is education that has a significant influence on economic factors.

So anyone who decides to make Triesen the centre of their life because of or for education is making the right decision. Not only in terms of these economic factors. Where else is it possible to have access to an intact village life and an innovative society? Where else can you find such intact living spaces in nature, in clubs, in neighbourhoods? Where else can you realise your dreams in such a quiet, yet modern living space?
