Institute for Liechtenstein Law and Legal Theory (ILRR)

The Institute pursues the goal of taking positions on current legal issues that affect, or at least partially affect, the Principality of Liechtenstein, based on a secure foundation in the theory of science and with particular consideration of legal-historical and comparative law findings.

The Institute is committed to an application-oriented jurisprudence. This by no means excludes legal philosophy and legal theory as fields of research—quite the contrary. These two legal disciplines can certainly also be pursued in an application-oriented manner, namely by always keeping their justification-theoretical function in view: legal philosophy and legal theory define the conditions under which normative statements can claim to be legal statements, that is, scientific insights into the content of the law.

The justification-theoretical function of legal philosophy and legal theory is also emphasized here because it is usually treated rather neglectfully in legal research and teaching; evidently not least because it is increasingly being forgotten even among the professorial ranks.
