Professor of Public Law, European Law, Public International Law and Life Sciences Law
Prof. Dr. iur. Claudia Seitz, M.A. (King's College London), Exec.M. (BSC Brussels), is Professor of Public Law, European Law, International Law, and Life Sciences Law at the Faculty of Law of the Private University in the Principality of Liechtenstein (UFL), Triesen.
Claudia Seitz studied law at the Universities of Freiburg, Basel and Strasbourg with additional studies in Helsinki and Florence. After the First State Law Examination in 1996, she worked as a trainee in the cabinet of the German judge at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg.
Besides her academic career, Claudia Seitz has extensive practical expertise and experience of more than 25 years as Attorney-at-Law in private practice, as Inhouse Counsel at an international life sciences company and as Scientific Advisor and Expert for Courts and International Organizations.
After her legal clerkship (Referendariat) and the Second State Examination in 1998 and admission to the bar in Cologne, she worked as an associate at the international law firm Cleary Gottlieb in Brussels from 1998 to 1999 before she became Attorney-at-Law and one of the partners of the life sciences law firm Seitz & Riemer, founded in 1999.
She received her doctorate (Dr. iur.) in European Law from the University of Basel in 2001. From 2002 to 2009 she worked as Inhouse Counsel for an international life sciences company in Basel. In parallel, she completed postgraduate studies at King's College London from 2006 to 2007 and a master programme from 2008 to 2009 and received a master's degree (Master in Arts, M.A.) in 2009. Since 2007, she is a Lecturer at the Department of Public Law of the University of Basel. From 2012 to 2014 Claudia Seitz was appointed at Scientific Advisor at the Swiss Federal Administrative Court in St. Gallen.
From 2014 to 2019, she was the Max Geldner Assistant Professor at the University of Basel and a co-founder of the Center for Life Sciences Law (CLSL) at the Law Faculty.
Since 2019, she is a Visiting Professor at University of Ghent as well as a Lecturer at the Law Faculties of the Universities of Basel and Bonn and, since 2021, also UFL.
Claudia Seitz completed her habilitation at the University of Basel with the habilitation thesis «Health and the State». In 2022 she was awarded the venia legendi for public law, European law, public international law and life sciences law. In 2023, she received a second master's degree (Executive Master in Law and AI) from the Brussels School of Competition Law (BSC Brussels).
In early 2023, Claudia Seitz was appointed as the Professor of Public Law, European Law, Public International Law and Life Sciences Law at the UFL. In 2024 she was also a Visiting Professor at the Bina Nusantara (BINUS) University in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Claudia Seitz is teaching and researching in particular in European law, public international law, life sciences law and the law of new technologies.
She is a member of the scientific editorial and advisory board of several law journals such as the European Pharmaceutical Law Review (EPRL) since 2014 and the Europäische Zeitschrift für Wirtschaftsrecht (EuZW) since 2010. In addition, she is also a regular speaker at international conferences and the author of several books, commentaries and over 100 publications in national and international law journals.
Claudia Seitz is the Head of the Institute of European and International Law (IEIL).
