Our Goals

The faculty aims to contribute to the further development of the health care systems in Liechtenstein and neighbouring countries through the targeted development of research skills among health professionals from various health care fields through the doctoral programme and the related research activities, as well as through other university educational opportunities.

Study programme
With the "Dr. scient. med." doctoral programme in Medical Sciences, the Faculty of Medical Sciences offers health professionals interested in research with various academic degrees (e.g. medicine, nursing, therapies, social sciences) who are interested in research an ideal platform to build up or supplement and deepen their scientific and research methodological skills within the framework of a structured doctoral programme. Guided by experienced academic supervisors, doctoral candidates carry out their own research projects and publish their results as part of their dissertation.

Research
The research activities of doctoral candidates are supervised by selected supervisors, some of whom work with UFL partners, others with the doctoral candidates' employers or as part of larger national and international research programmes. With the establishment of the Institute of Translational Medicine (2021) and the Institute of Laboratory Medicine (2023), the Faculty's own research projects are increasingly being carried out and positions are being been offered to doctoral candidates (PhDstudents).

Continuing education
Based on careful analysis of educational needs and provision in the healthcare sector, university continuing education courses are developed and offered to meet these needs. Depending on the subject area, this is done with appropriate partners and in coordination with professional organisations.
